Fancy Dress Party!

Ollie and I are going to a fancy dress party for New Years Eve! I have never been to a New Years Eve party that wasnt thrown by a family member before and I love fancy dress (although I dont get to do it that often) The party has a theme and that theme is the 90's! Personally i think its a really hard era to get costume ideas from so i fell back on my first love which is movies!

I looked at cool movie characters for the 90's and decided on the Addams family movies! I loved them and love the gothic nature of the outfits. I have decided to go as Wednesday:



And Ollie is going as Fester:



I have ordered a dress and shoes from Ebay and the wonderful Suze has found a brown Monks outfit for Ollie to wear, I just need to make a rope like tie for his costume but I have some yarn that would look great!

Im really excited about it and cant wait! Watch this space in the New Year for pics!

Christmas Knitting

I decided not to go for a full out knitted Christmas again this year, firstly because it would have cost too much and secondly because I didnt have enough time.

I have however, made a few knitted bits this year. I have made snoods in huge chunky yarn for both Keri and Stacey:






Keri's snood is the Pink/purple/white one and the yarn is Sirdar Denim Multi. Its a bit of a fluffy yarn but you get a lot of yardage on the ball and its slightly lighter than the other yarn and has a beautiful drape to it.

Stacey's one is the Purple Multi one. Its made with Cygnet Seriously chunky and as much as I love the yarn its very hard going on your hands. Its very thick and hard to work with when working on the round but it is very very thick and will keep her very warm.

As you know from an earlier post, Ollie's friends have kind of become my friends too. I decided to knit them all a little something for Christmas and because I dont really know them well enough to pick out styles or colours I decided on the following:

Beanies for the boys:




And Cowls for the Girls:




This is yarn that I have had lying about for a while and patterns that I know and love. The cowls are made with a mega chunky yarn on size 10 uk needles and knit up in about an hour and the beanies are an aran weight black acrylic yarn and also another pattern thats quick and easy and took about 2.5 hours each to make.

I loved the beanie hat so much that I made on for myself with my much loved Manos De Uruguay silk blend yarn that I have had for over a year but could'nt decided what to use it for:




What do you think? I really like it, however its a little close when being worn so I have to remember to have hair hanging down or I look like im a bald woman wearing a beanie to keep warm!

It Finally Feels Like Christmas!

I have been a very good girl this year and already have all of my Christmas shopping done! No trapsing round the high street for hours on end for me! All sorted. Which meant that my most enjoyable moment of the whole Christmas process was there to look forward to ....... wrapping the presents! I really do love wrapping presents, it makes me go all hearty skippy when I pile them all up, get out the paper, tape, scissors, bows and ribbon! I love to have neat lines and uniformed wrapping with matching ribbons, contrasting bows and lovely hand written tags in a random ink colour (pink this year). So I had this pile of presents sitting in my room for over a week and for some reason the enthusiasm to wrap them just wasnt there. Then I realised, its because I have no tree to put the under! There is something about the whole process of wrapping and stacking that just screams CHRISTMAS at me and not having one half of the duo just didnt feel right.

M doesnt have a tree and because he goes home to Mexico every year doesnt see the point and to quote him he is Christmas Grinch. So I emailed him (our 1st point of conversation as we never seem to see each other) and asked if it would be ok if I went and got a tree! He didnt mind so on Saturday I braved Slough High street and brought a tree. The plan was to pop to Wilkinsons, then Argos then Tesco if nothing took my fancy but as soon as I walked into Wilko's I found the tree and the colour scheme I wanted, purchased everything and got to the till to find it was 25% off!!! Even better!!!

So I was desperate to put the tree up on Saturday evening but got a text from Ollie asking If I had got what I wanted, the reply to which was a very happy, excited yes and on the end of the text I added, "would you like to help me put it up when you visit tomorrow", I got a resounding yes and my heart got even more skippy as I would be putting up my first tree in my new house for the first Christmas with my new boyfriend. The joy was filling me up so I decided to get the wrapping of presents done so I would be ready for the stacking under the tree! I have gone with a beautiful pinky purple paper with a tree design that is made of pink/purple/gold spots and contrasting pink and purple ribbons and bows! Oh what fun I had wrapping all those presents!

Ollie came over yesterday ans was just as excited as me to get the tree up. We cracked open the box and took out my fake black (yes Black) tree, put the legs on, joined the sections then spread the arms out nice and wide. I tied the nice new glittery, shiny star that I brought for it at the top (I dont like angels) and then we placed it where it was going to live. I wrapped it up in the fairy lights I brought and then cracked open the box of 100 decorations I got for £7.50 in wilkos and we proceeded to decorate the tree to within an inch of its life! The colour scheme I chose was silver, light blue and dark blue and the box contained big shiny baubles, small shiny baubles, big glittery baubles, strings of silver beads, icicles, snow flakes and presents! I only managed to fit half of them on the tree so im planning on making a garland and hanging the rest on there. As soon as that magical moment came when I got the switch on the lights I feel madly in love with my tree! I love it sooo much. Would you like to see it?

Isnt it beautiful? Its only 4 foot but its perfect and did you see all my presents stacked under the tree? Dont they look good?

Also as a bonus M informed me that they put stars on the top of the tree in Mexico and not angels so I picked the right one for the both of us!

Hats, hats and yes you guessed it more hats!

I have this mad bug for Pixie hats! I brought the pattern from Ravelry and its soooooo easy, sooooo quick, soooooo warm and looks amazing!! Here are a few pics of the ones i have already made:




















I have just finished another one but havent posted any pictures yet! I will share when its up. As you can see from the above pics I have been torturing all the people in the office and making them model them for me! Im thinking of doing a market stall to sell them as its close to Christmas and I need the money lol!

The Christmas Countdown!

I cant believe how fast this year has flown and Christmas is just around the corner! It going to be a very tight Christmas this year with small gifts (hopefully knitted) and hand made treats for everyone! I have left it a bit late to do all the knitting I need to do so will be knitting up nice bulky hats, scarves, cowls and snoods with big yarn on big needles to keep people warm, plus its mega quick to knit!

I have found a great little yarn shop in High Wycombe that sells the whole Cygnet yarn range at really cheep prices. I have stocked up on a few balls but will be hitting it big time when I get paid! The Cygnet Seriously Chunky comes in some great colours and feels great when knitted up. Stick it on a size 9 Needle and you can have a Pixi hat in 2 hours!

Ollie's Mum's Birthday is on the 4th December and she wants a Long Knitted cowl in Moss stitch so Im going to be making a start on that tomorrow. I currently have a Pixi hat on the needles and have relegated all the baby knitting to one side until I have the Christmas knitting out of the way!

I am organising a Secret Santa with the knitting group and am really looking forward to dishing out names and then swapping gifts! We are rolling the giving of presents and the Xmas do into one so should make for a great knitting group night on the 6th of December.
