Yum Yum Yarn!

I have been naughty lately and treated myself to some new yarn! I wont be able to spend any more money soon as I will be saving saving saving so this is my last treat for a while. Would you like to see what I brought? Ok then, here you go:

The first one is James C Brett Magi-Knit. Its really soft and I think this will make a great version of the lacy cardigan from this post

 The second is another batch of the Sirdar Snuggly Baby Crofter. This one is colour way 0164.

And then there is this one! This is also a crofter and is colour way 0166.

I realised after I brought the crofter pattern book that I don't have any boy colours in my stash and because everyone who is having babies seem to be having boys I had better get some! I also picked up a pattern pamphlet for crofter too: 

I love making baby hats as they are nice and easy but find that some of the patterns I use arent too modern so I thought id give these a try. 

I got really lucky with this yarn as I found a website that is the cheapest I have come across for this yarn. I paid £2.65 per ball from The Crafty Yarn Shop"! they have a great range of stuff on there at very competitive prices.

Introducing baby Zac

Remember a while back I posted about "A baby blanket - worth waiting for?" well Mummy and Daddy have sent me a picture of baby with the blanket from that post, Would you like to meet baby?

 Here we are: This is Zac Brown! Isnt he the cutest little thing? Im so so so happy for Tim and Sarah and know that they are a complete family now. I wish them nothing but love, joy, laughter and happiness as this part of there life starts!

Well done guys he is amazing!

A Major Case of the Wanties!

I have had a major case of the wanties lately and I devised a way of dealing with them! Im going to blog about it! that way I kinda feel like I have these things and the wanties go away!

 Firstly there is this: A miffy lamp! Isnt it the cutest! The big one is BIG its about 3ft tall and would look great in a nursery or bedroom! BUT (and its a big but) it costs £125!!! way to expensive and cant be justified so I will blog/dream about it!
 

Secondly: Swaroski have launched a Hello Kitty range!! They are doing crystal figurines and jewellery etc. This is the one that I am mad about:

Ollie and I actually saw this in the shop and it is breath taking! I made Ollie drag me out of the shop as the need to own this piece was way too strong for me to overcome alone. BUT again (another big but) it !165!! Just another one to add to the wanties list! What have you all be craving ownership of lately?

I feel like a proud parent.......

For those of you who know me you will know that Im a knitter who isnt into very complex projects, 1 or 2 balls things are what I like. I hate sewing up and I prefer to do baby hats, mittens, booties, blankets, adult hats and mittens etc. With crochet im even worse, I love doing blankets but either giant granny squares or rippley ones. Well im very proud to announce that this year my New Years resolution was to work on more challenging things and even go as far as knitting something for myself that wasnt a hat, scarf or pair of gloves. The my lovely friend Anna has a crofter pattern book that I have totally fallen in love with so I treated myself to a copy:

Its full of super easy but super cute knits that look even more complicated than normal thanks to the crofter yarn. There is one pattern in the book that i have well and truly fallen head over heels in love with:

Isnt it the sweetest little cardigan you have ever seen. I love love love it!!! Needless to say I grabbed the crofter I had in my stash, whipped out the needles and dove head first into my 2nd ever cardigan. SOOOOOOOO here is my attempt ...........

What do you think??? I am so so pleased with this! Thanks to the lovely Knit24Seven from my knitting group I have learned a new method of seaming and I think it looks so much better than my earlier failed attempts. I am beaming from ear to ear over this and even took it to work to show to all my co-workers! The only thing I have left to do is find some buttons that will look truly amazing - the hunt is on!

Books Books Books

I have been reading alot lately. I seem to go through phases where I ready all the time, then I stop for a while but I always go back to it.

I am currently re-reading the Abhorsen books by Garth Nix. These are a young adults series but I really really enjoy them. There are 3 books in the series, Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen. They are all about magic and necromancy and I really get lost in them when I read them. I think that's why I always go back to them when I have nothing else to read.

I was supposed to visit my Dad at the weekend but silly me forgot to check the trains before I left and I got all the way to South Kensington ready to swap to the district line to take me the rest of the way only to discover that the district line was closed! So in the end I spent the day poodling round the museums and enjoying the shops in kensington. I found a Waterstones and decided to treat myself to some new reading material:



So we have, The 10th and 11th Sookie Stackhouse books. I really really love the books but the TV series - dear me NO! Its so bad!! I watched 5 minutes of 1 episode and hated it instantly! The books are so much better!

We also have the 5th instalment in the Dean Koontz Frankenstein Series. When I first heard he was writing these books I will admit (even tho im a die hard fan) that I was worried! I mean how can you compete with Mary Shelley! Her book is wonderfully written and the story totally gripping and just soooo great. However Koontz did not let me down! The books are amazing! He hasnt re-written the book, not at all, he has brought it to today! The Monster and the Maker have been alive and dealing with there lives - the monster dealing with the rage and the knowledge he will never be human and the maker with the science and the technology that allows him to live forever - for the past 200 years but meet again. The use of modern science and technology on the part of The Maker are scarily possible and make you wonder and the Monsters life and the paths he chooses always lead him back to the maker! Throw in some super cool edgy characters that you would love to sit and chat with and you have the new look into Frankenstein. I cannot rate these books enough and I cant wait to read the next instalment!

As for the other Koontz im looking forward to this one too. I own all of the books that Koontz has ever written under the name Koontz and most of them are great, he seemed to have gone through a bad faze in the late 80's with his books and there are a few from that period in not a fan of but over all I enjoy all of his work. I got to the stage where I thought I knew what to expect from his writing but then I read Odd Thomas and realised that he still has the power to wow me! This one is a thriller and it has a killer in it - I love a good murderer, they always surprise you!

Well Im sure there will be another post soon either praising of denouncing these new books!

**Just checked the Sookie books I have here and I already have Dead In the Family! Its a hard back cover along with Dead and gone so I think I will stick the hard backs on Ebay and carry on my paperback collection**

Another move on the horizon!

Well unfortunately I am moving again! M has decided that he wants to live a little closer to London and will be moving out at the end of May. I cant afford to keep the flat by myself and even if Ollie moved in with me we would struggle every month to make rent and bills. So...... here is the new plan!

The wonderful Sue and Graham have again come to my rescue and are letting me have my old room back rent free for a couple of months so I can save up some money. I will be looking for a job close to where Ollie lives and if I get a job in that couple of months Ollie and I will have enough money to put a months rent/months deposit down on a place near Marlow. If I dont get a job I will have enough money to get a little studio/1 bed near here so I can carry on working and still be saving money too.

So I have officially given my notice and my last day in my current abode will be the 13th of May! I am looking forward to a new phase in life and will be sad to leave my little house, I do love it so much. Here is a reminder of what Im going to miss:



Such a beautiful place, surrounded by beautiful grass and trees, backing onto the church yard with squirrels running around and birds always singing. Its hard to believe that Im only 2 miles away from Heathrow terminal 5, apart from when the planes pass overhead that is. I will miss my little bit of the country in the city though.

Knitting, knitting and more knitting

As you can tell I have been doing a lot of knitting! So many people I know are having babies, I have friends in Scotland who's baby is now officially overdue. I have another friend on the Isle of White who's little girl is now 4 weeks old and a friend in Canada who has just had twins and another friend in Kent who's baby isnt too far away now either.

I have been busy whipping up hats and mittens sets and the odd blanket too. I have been very naughty and not taken too many pics but here are the bits that went to Scotland:
